Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Principles of Dynamic Psychiatry by Jules H. Masserman (see record 1946-01117-000). The comprehensive scope of this book is best indicated by the full title, “principles of dynamic psychiatry including an integrative approach to abnormal and clinical psychology.” the author turned to experimental psychology as a basic approach to an understanding of fundamental psychological dynamisms, was trained in psychoanalysis, and has in this book endeavored to integrate these several approaches in a critical consideration of various theories of behavior and an attempt to re-formulate and integrate these theories into a biodynamic organon of behavior. Somewhat over half of the book is text, and almost a half devoted to appendices. The development and clinical application of the basic principles are extensively elaborated. Clinical case material and observations made in the author’s numerous experiments with animals are used abundantly to support and document these principles and the corollaries presented. This is an excellent text for the fairly advanced student in psychiatry, or to one already well-grounded in psychology. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved) |
