Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Redirecting Teacher Education by Goodwin Watson, Donald P. Cottrell, and Esther M. Lloyd-Jones (1938). The perspective on the preparation of the teacher recognizes that she teaches as a part of living, not as apart from living, and that here living is an outgrowth of a much broader life experience than has traditionally been the concern of teacher education. The chief adverse criticism of the book would be that it is somewhat repetitive and gives the feeling of being stretched out. Still, such a criticism is minor when one considers the positive values of the content. The book lays special emphasis on the crucial question of admission selection and the conditions that make this more or less valid and the relationship of admission to subsequent guidance. Since education is a fundamental in democracy, the book should interest not only the educator, but all community functionaries whose activities impinge on those of the school and whose contribution will be enhanced by a better understanding of impinging fields.
