Zusammenfassung: | An important problem which has received little attention is the effect such a handicap has on the individual’s later life, particularly in regard to school success. The purpose of the present study is, in general, to meet this need and to investigate such contributing factors as lateral dominance, ocular conditions and emotional attitudes. The approach has been through a study of individual cases having average or better than average intelligence who had previously been diagnosed as having a disability in the field of reading. The study is based on 41 cases selected from the files of the Psycho-Educational Clinic, and represents all the cases for the twelve-year period between 1922 and 1934 which met certain requirements. The case method of presentation has been followed. Each individual at the time of the follow-up study was given a number of tests as an objective means of comparing his present achievement with that of his past performances, especially in reading.
