School phobia: Workshop, 1955: Discussion

This article present the proceedings of the 1955 workshop of the American Orthopsychiatric Association. The theme of the workshop was on school phobia. There has long been a need for proper orientation and rational treatment of this very prevalent disorder. Today there should be no mystery about the etiology of school phobia or the treatment which is indicated. It is to be regretted that these papers were not more intimately integrated, depicting, hour by hour, collaborative therapy demonstrating the unmistakable interdigitation of the parental and child conflicts about needs and separation.
