Zusammenfassung: | The goal of this research was to design in Csound a simple kalimba emulator that might be used in a composition named "The Book of Sounds" for orchestra and electronic sounds and also further expanded pursuing a complete physical model of the instrument. The proposed model combined basic principles of instrument and spectral modeling, using additive synthesis. The design process started with the spectral analysis of a sample that yielded mapping functions between the exciter and the resonator. Aspects of prevailing inharmonic partials, amplitude variation on time of partials and noise components were theoretically and experimentally approached in the model. A particular tuning of the kalimba keys, conceived after the results of the spectral analysis, was proposed in order to accomplish an idiomatic character for the virtual instrument.
