Zusammenfassung: | The Monthly Magazine, Bell's Weekly Magazine, The Morning Chronicle, The Evening Chronicle, Bell's Life in London, and Sporting Chronicle, The Library of Fiction, and The Carlton Chronicle. Hanna accurately reflects several of the eccentricities in Dickens's first published work, "A Dinner at Poplar Walk," including "observed Bagshaw to to the distracted Minns" (5), "the dog, remained" (5), "Mr. Augustus Minn's" (6), "could'nt" (10), and two instances of missing quotation marks (9), as well as the spelling "trowsers" (7), and an instance of gothic font (4). Paul Schlickes forthcoming Clarendon edition of Sketches by Boz, if it has the complete and accurate apparatus for which one hopes, will enable this kind of comparative study to be done with ease. |
