Zusammenfassung:Surface examination of Natufian flaked stone artefacts from the Early Natufian site of Wadi Hammeh 27 (dated c.12,000b.p.), located at Pella in Jordan, indicates that some cherts were heat-treated prior to flaking. The fractured surfaces of a series of experimentally-heated Pella cherts were examined by Scanning Electron Microscope, and the results compared with the archaeological specimens.
