Synthesis and Characterization of an Imidazole-Containing Pyrene [pi]-System

A one-pot reaction is used in the creation of a novel skeleton by using pyrene and the five-membered imidazole ring as the key units. The two new compounds show high thermal stability. Deep-blue emissions are observed in solution for both compounds, which have a strong tendency to aggregate into thin films and a tendency to crystallize as powders. These properties are indicative of their potential application in organic electronic devices. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
