Staging Everyman . A “Dance of Life,” or of the use of medieval drama to re-energize our contemporary stage

I planned the French première of a less contemporary of Bond’s plays: Stone, a parable on injustice and cultural oppression written in agit-prop form for the activist London company Gay Sweatshop, in 1976. My purpose was to confront this play with its early Renaissance reflex: Everyman, in a double bill sweeping across centuries of popular theatre innovation and practice.
