Zusammenfassung:Obesity has reached epidemic levels in industrialized countries. However, the prevalence of obesity is also rising in other less developed parts of the world, like Asia and Africa. For centuries people across the countries have been using natural products and plant based dietary supplements for weight control. The discovery of bioactive compounds from herbs is one possible way to control obesity and to prevent or reduce the risks of developing various obesity-related diseases. The present review covers the taxonomy, habitat, distribution, extraction and identification of active principle of potential medicinal plants used in obesity treatment. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
