Zusammenfassung: | Thyroid hormones (FIT) act via nuclear receptors (RT3α and RT3β) in many tissues and their effects on the development of various organs (bone, muscle and brain) are now well established. The objective of this work is to study the effect of thyroid hormone deficiency on the structure and activity of the adrenal gland. Hypothyroidism was induced by treatment for 21 days by a synthetic anti-thyroid substance, in adulthood and during breastfeeding. The endocrine activity is estimated by evaluating the level of total glucocorticoids and the structure of the gland is analyzed. The lack of thyroid hormones, at birth as well as in adulthood, has resulted in significant changes in body weight and plasma levels of glucocorticoids. The absolute weight of the adrenal decreases only in animals treated at birth. The mean thickness of the cortex was significantly reduced in rats treated in adulthood. Changes in body and glandular weights show that the absence of FIT causes a delay in body growth and development of the gland. Effect on steroidogenesis is reflected by changes in plasma hormone levels. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
