Synthesis of an Optically Active [alpha]-Tetralone

An optically active dihydroxy-α-tetralone was synthesized from methyl α-D-xylopyranoside via dimethyl (2R,3S)-dihydroxyglutarate. This α-tetralone is a key intermediate to construct the natural benanomicinone.
