Formic Acid Reduction. VIII. Reduction of Nitrosobenzenes to Azoxybenzenes

TMAF, 5HCO2H·2N (CH3)3 was found to be efficient reagent for reduction of nitrosobenzenes to azoxybenzenes. Reductions of a variety of nitrosobenzenes revealed the usefulness of the method for the preparation of azoxybenzenes. Comments on the course of the reduction are given.
