Snapshots of a Shakespearean in China

The author describes his experience in Changchun City, China, preparing to direct a production William Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor," by the Changchun Modern Drama Players, and teaching a course on Shakespeare and the modern playwrights at Jilin University. He discusses choosing the play, cultural differences of teaching in China and how that impacted his own view of Shakespeare, seeing local productions of "King Lear" and "The Green Fields Return," the winner of the annual Marxist Prize, how his comments were received, and what he learned from his hosts.
