Zusammenfassung:The idea proposed here is that the many strategic, organisational and operational efforts around sustainability can benefit from the addition of reflective practices, whether at the individual, team, organisational or systems level. Reflective practices can contribute to greater spiritual well-being, which the authors propose is essential for business to thrive in the years ahead. When you peel the onion to uncover what lies behind the behaviours and actions that support sustainability—reframed here as flourishing—you find a layer of relationship-based viewpoints and experiences. Behind that layer lies the core: the journey to a greater sense of connectedness. It is only through becoming more connected to ourselves, others and the natural world that we can build the necessary foundations for flourishing. Such a journey, enabled by reflective practices and combined with greater awareness of what is going on in the external world, can lead us to take actions that habitually incorporate care for others and for future generations, creating what Michael Porter has called ‘shared value’ for business and society, only to a much greater extent than is practised by business today.
