During that period, the most intriguing discussion by many observers was the reported propensity (tendency) of molestus to feed on humans, e.g., in the World War II era in below-the-ground bomb shelters in London (Shute 1949 among others) in contrast to the tendency of pipiens to feed on avian hosts above- ground. The decision made earlier by the Association to hold their annual conference in southern California was most convenient for me (travel restrictions) over meeting on the east coast where the Society for Vector Ecology and the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene were scheduling their annual meetings that year.
