Stand structure of non-management Phyllostachys pubescens forest and dynamics for 3 years after improvement management in Mt. Tennozan

We investigated stand structure of non-management Phyllostachys pubescens forest and dynamics for three years after improvement management. As results, culm density and above-ground biomass of culms were ca. 8,000 /ha and 217-224 t/ha, respectively. After improvement management, number of current culms increased, whereas their diameters at breast height and heights were significantly smaller than those before improvement management. Particularly, in case current culms were cut in improvement management, current culms produced after improvement management were much smaller, and its influence continued for several years.
