Zusammenfassung: | Valentino talks about the field of translation studies. One of the things that makes the field of Translation Studies of particular interest today is its move away from the more static, a-historical comparisons between foreign and translated texts to an awareness that concepts of equivalence vary not only historically, from period to period, but within particular periods and among different cultural constituencies, each of whom may expect a different relation between a foreign work and its translation: the cultural and historical specificity of language makes simplistic models of equivalence implausible. Nowhere is such specificity more apparent than in the realm of literary art, where the attempt to carry over what was created inside one literary and cultural context into another exposes the deep rifts between cultures around the world. |
