Zusammenfassung: | This work analyzes Brazilian parties strategies to launch candidates to governor, senator, federal deputy and state deputy offices in Brazil, from 1986 to 2006. It shows that between small and mediumsized parties most candidatures are isolated, with no alliances. However, among the major parties alliances prevail, especially those which are ideologically inconsistent. Only Worker's Party performed more ideologically consistent alliances than inconsistent ones in the referred period; but this pattern was inverted in 2002 and 2006. The analyses also reveals that voters have not punished ideologically inconsistent alliances. Besides that, candidatures that are supported by parties from federal govern coalition have better chances to victory than those which are supported only by opposition parties.
