Zusammenfassung: | At any rate, after compiling an impressive amount of data on the state of healthcare in Illinois, the Commission failed to provide any meaningful answers to the "hospital problem/' or any of the other issues related to the cost of providing modern scientific healthcare. [...]during the 1920s and well into the 1930s, a large proportion of the costs of providing healthcare continued to be borne by charitable organizations and private individuals. According to Charles Jackson, who managed the public offering for the WCTU, "By purchasing one of these notes, a worthy institution is assisted and a safe investment is made." [...]many patients beginning insulin therapy required hospitalization due to their low weight and poor health. [...]the hospital was transformed from being the last refuge of the indigent to being a place where an increasingly middle-class patient base received modern scientific treatment that resulted in recovery and cures. |
