"Así que pasen cinco años". A Search for Sexual Identity

Federico García Lorca considered Así que pasen cinco años to be one of his most important plays. It consists of a series of episodes, including heterosexual and homosexual encounters, remembrances from the past and projections into the future, as fantasied by the protagonist, the Joven. Throughout the play the Joven struggles to understand his own sexual make-up, and when he realizes that his whole life is to be a self-tormenting search for sexual understanding, he prefers to die rather than to go on living.
