Typology and Narrative Techniques in Cardenal's El estrecho dudoso

Cardenal's epic poem, El estrecho dudoso, employs typological foreshadowing, which was first used by biblical writers, along with narrative techniques commonly found in modern prose rhetoric to present a central theme of the historic quest for social justice in Central America. Typology and other narrative strategies also serve to denounce the oppression of the Somoza dictatorship in Nicaragua today and to prophesy the coming of a new era of social justice after the catastrophic destruction of the old regime.
