Zusammenfassung:A sampling technique for estimating annual leaf fall in mixed hardwood stands (principally oaks) was tested. The performance criteria were the repeatability of the sampling technique from one year to the next and the precision of its estimates. Estimates and confidence intervals for certain stand parameters are presented. The sampling method consisted of randomly located leaf traps on 0.1-ha plots in stands. The method caused a minimum disruption of the forest. Judged by the performance criteria, the method gave reliable results.
