Creation of Smooth Contours over Irregularly Distributed Data Using Local Surface Patches

Irregularly distributed data sets have to be gridded or triangulated before a surface representation in the form of a contour map can be created. A method is outlined for a local patch in the rectangular case and then two alternative methods are discussed for general triangular patches. A comparison is made of the surfaces created using the different techniques.
