Zusammenfassung: | Using 1989 data from a survey conducted by the Research Center for Arts and Culture, this paper explores the question of whether there is a difference between visual artists that live in New York and those that live elsewhere. The overall picture that emerges from our analysis is of New York artists as quintessential artists. New York artists spend more time making art, have a strong commitment to art, and have internally generated images of themselves as artists. It is especially interesting that they devote more time to art, when they have no higher art income, higher art costs, and hence lower art profits than artists living in other parts of the country. |
