Student-generated matrix/database as an organizational tool

College students created a matrix which was converted to a database and was searched via comparison/contrast attributes. Students who had been given a general procedure for creating the matrix were aware of attributes that could be used to compare and contrast. This was not true of students who had outlined the information or students who had used a very detailed matrix procedure.
