Zusammenfassung:This paper discusses the application of computers in the chemistry curriculum in higher education. Included is a review of the historical aspects of computer usage by chemists, current attitudes to the application of CAL in the discipline, a description of examples of good practice and a consideration of the advantages and effectiveness of using CAL. It concludes with an examination of the constraints on chemistry departments in higher education which will become dominant in the future possibly making CAL even more attractive as a tool for the teacher.
