The population of England (1539-1873): An issue of Demographic Homeostasis

Testing both series lead to the conclusion that the homeostatic totals, which were calculated according to a simple formula, are clearly more accurate than the older series. S'appuyant sur l'hypothèse d'un équilibre homéostatique, cet article présente l'évolution quantifiée de la population anglaise sur plus de trois siècles. Ces données s'appuient sur les statistiques de mariages disponibles et elles sont comparées avec celles publiées par Wrigley et Schofield en 1971. L'auteur conclut que les totaux homéostatiques, calculés avec une formule simple, sont clairement plus justes que les anciennes séries. Les statistiques homéostatiques proposent ainsi une meilleure idée de l'histoire économique et démographique de l'Angleterre.
