Zusammenfassung:From a conceptual standpoint it would be far better to treat international integration as a unidimensional rather than a multidimensional phenomenon. The empirical evidence also overwhelmingly supports that treatment. The multiple dimensions proposed by Lindberg (1970) and Nye (1968) prove to be closely associated and form parts of a single cumulative unilinear pattern. Therefore the most appropriate index for international integration is one based on a Guttman scale.
