Zusammenfassung: | Electromyographic and cinefluorographic data are presented relevant to temporal coordination and synchronization in speech motor control. Although a priori neurophysiological considerations, evidence from historical phonology, and data from the coordination of fundamental frequency and movements of the upper articulators all suggest that the notion should be a viable one, the present data can not be used to demonstrate synchrony between lip and tongue movements during Swedish rounded vowel production. Nevertheless, the search for temporal integration mechanisms and the answer to the question: Is there something unique about the Swedish front rounded vowels that might require an earlier movement onset? remain current and important to research efforts in phonetics. |
