Tungusica

A critical evaluation of the "Tungusica," the first volume on Tungus languages and peoples to appear in the West. – The "Tungúsica" contains a Preface by M. Weiers, and 7 articles, of these two by Doerfer, one on the Classification of the Tungus languages, and one on the proto-Tungus *ö and its later development, two by Hiu Lie, on the Solon language of the Huin-Gol, and on the name of the Udihe; one by Novikova (transl, by Hesche) on Lamut folklore; one by R. G. Service on a Map of the Tungus Peoples and Dialects; and one by W. Hesche on proto-Tungus *ö in the first syllable. – A number of problems is discussed and additional observations are made on Tungus and its relation to the other Altaic languages.
