Corrosion Resistance of Pure Alumina as a Glass Refractory
Small corrosion test samples were cut from nonporous, single‐crystal, gem‐and‐bearing‐type sapphire boules. These, along with similar samples of “Corhart ZAC”* refractory, were placed in contact with a common lime glass for various lengths of time at temperatures between 1400° and 1550°C. The result...

Zusammenfassung: | Small corrosion test samples were cut from nonporous, single‐crystal, gem‐and‐bearing‐type sapphire boules. These, along with similar samples of “Corhart ZAC”* refractory, were placed in contact with a common lime glass for various lengths of time at temperatures between 1400° and 1550°C. The results of metal‐line cut measurements show that, at a given temperature, the corrosion resistance of a pure, nonporous single crystal of alumina is less than that for a commercially available refractory composition. |
