Zusammenfassung: | Riverine long-lot original surveys were employed in many parts of Texas for about 150 years, beginning in the Spanish period and extending well into the era of statehood. No precedent for the use of long-lots was found either in Spain or New Spain. The evidence suggests that long-lots were diffused to Texas from Central Europe, by way of northern France, Québec, and the French colonies in Missouri and Louisiana. Long-lot survey left an imprint in cadastral, road, and street patterns which is still observable. |
