Zusammenfassung: | The article is written in response to Mårten Söder's (Volume 4, Number 2, June 1989) paper 'Disability as a social construct: the labelling approach revisited'. It examines and questions his assumptions and arguments and the evidence he provides for them. It attempts to uncover the nature of 'non-labelling policies', and takes issue with his attribution of a 'non-labelling ideology' to proponents of integration policies as well as his assertion that integrationists deny the significance of disability. It traces the source of some of his errors to a particular ideology of science and a failure to come to terms with his own commitments. The article is presented as both a critique and a positive contribution to debate. |
