Assuring our food supply — technology, resources and policy

This paper treats the problems of how to enhance agricultural output per unit of land area per unit of time — how to increase the productivity of the individual farmer. The author emphasizes the importance of combining a biophysical approach with a socio-politico-economic approach. He discusses new technologies related to food production, resources needed for crop and livestock production and policies required to achieve these new ‘frontiers’ of production, combining techniques with incentives.
