Zusammenfassung: | A preliminary report of res based on interviews with a sample of 175 white prostitutes (P's)-83 from Ind Women's Prison, presented on age, educ, religion, marriage, sexual responsiveness, & factors involved in F's becoming P's. It was found that the NY Women's Reformatory group was considerably younger, better educed & more religious than the other 2 groups. In all groups, for those who did marry, most were separated or divorced. Multiple marriages & divorces were the rule. P's were found to be more sexually responsive with their customers than has previously been believed. In their nonprofessional sexual lives the P's proved to be more responsive than nonP's. A good income was reported as being one of the reasons for becoming a P by most of the F's in the sample. Meeting interesting people, an interesting life, fun & excitement, & sex were also mentioned. Nearly 66.6% reported that they had no regrets over becoming a P, 33.3% reported that they did not plan to quit their profession, & 20% said they would advise a girl to become a P. 8 Tables E.
