Distribution of barn types in northeastern United States [Cultural or ethnic origin]

The distribution of major barn types in northeastern North America, determined by the isopleth technique in SYMAP, is presented in this article. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first effort to study the distribution of barn types over such a large area. The resulting patterns confirm certain basic facts about the origin and dispersal of barn types and suggest new lines of investigation, including identification of routes and centers of diffusion.
