Zusammenfassung: | The Caribbean and adjacent Central American coasts in pre-Columbian times were rich in aquatic resources that supported varied people for a long period before the development of agriculture. Subsequent farmer-fishers relied on these same resources for protein, while root crops were emphasized for starch. By the time of Columbus such production supported Indians numbering in the millions and living relatively comfortable, interesting, and humane lives. |
