Zusammenfassung: | The author deals with the role of the Czech nobleman Jan Capek of Sány in the preparation and realization of a military expedition of the Czech Hussites together with the Poles against the Teutonic Knights to the Baltic coast in the year 1433. He follows the course of individual military operations and describes Capek's position among army leaders. There are a lot of written records of this military expedition in contemporary chronicles that do not always seem to be reliable. Capek played a big part during the expedition even after the arrival of the main Polish troops. The pinnacle of this military expedition was a six-week long siege of the town of Chojnice. To stand on the Baltic coast was a considerable experience and achievement for the Czech soldiers as well. The military expedition to the Baltic exerted a big influence on Capek's future career, particularly in view of his later decision to join the Polish army as a mercenary. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
