Zusammenfassung: | Most historians view the Boehm system oboe, invented by Louis August Buffet, as an inconsequential instrument that was rarely made or played. A close examination of the evidence shows that it was in fact used by major players in Paris and London; was used extensively in military and other outdoor music in western Europe and North America until the middle of the 20th century; was manufactured widely throughout Europe; and suggested the design of later oboes, including those universally in use today. Buffet's Boehm system oboe is examined and the pivotal role it played in the development of the modern oboe is detailed. |
