Book Review: "Francesco Foggia 'fenice de' musicali compositori' nel florido Seicento romano e nella storia"

Papers given at an international conference held in Palestrina and Rome on October 6-8, 1998 are published in this volume edited by Ala Botti Caselli (Fondazione Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, 1998). The contributions focus on the biography of the liturgical composer, Franceso Foggia; the requirements of the musical environment that shaped his professional life; and analyses of his music. The reviewer notes the absence of an article on Foggia's masses, which would be a rich field for research.
