Zusammenfassung: | Indicates that the thematic index of the works of Franz Schubert states that the remark "music by Schubert" appears next to Eduard von Bauernfeld's poem "Das Todtenhemdchen" in the "Album Österreichischer Dichter" (1850) and in the 1852 and subsequent editions of von Bauernfeld's poetry. Notes that this fact inevitably points to the existence of such a composition by Schubert. Asserts that it was not noted, until recently, that a musical version of this poem by Benedict Randhartinger exists that was published in January 1835 as part of "Drei Gedichte in Musik gesetzt von B. Randhartinger Op. 21." Examines the confusion surrounding songs that have been attributed both to Schubert and Randhartinger. Includes musical notation for "Das Todtenhemdchen," as well as excerpts from both composers' versions of "Erster Verlust" and "Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh." |
