Zusammenfassung:Interviews Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara about his opera "Vincent," which will receive its Austrian premiere in May 1998 in Innsbruck. Discusses the evolution of his style, noting that he employs the general rules of dodecaphony as a framework for a musical synthesis which also recalls the modes of Messiaen. Explains his use of historical anachronisms and his decision not to compose a strictly biographical portrait of the artist van Gogh in this work. Remarks on his use of the synthesizer in his choral music and operas and notes that Rautavaara has no plans for future operas, preferring to concentrate on works in other genres in the future.
