Echo: In neuem Licht: Pfitzners "Palestrina" an der Staatsoper (18.-19.5.) mit Symposien (IFK und Musikuni Wien 11.5.)

A performance of Hans Pfitzner's legendary opera "Palestrina," directed by Herbert Wernicke and performed by the house orchestra under Peter Schneider, among others, is reviewed. Two conferences held in May that discussed Pfitzner's opera are also described. One was held by the Internationales Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaft (IFK) under Gotthart Wunberg, in conjunction with the State Opera and Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz, at the Herbert von Karajan Centrum in Vienna; the other was an interuniversity colloquium that was held at the Musik Universität Wien.
