Since the theories of this author are described in note 5, page 27, as "fascinating, yet erratic", their application to Balinese society would need at least some explanation. [...]I wish to emphasize that, in spite of its relatively limited scope, this new survey of the Balinese dance is a beautiful book which many lovers of Indonesian art forms will read with great pleasure, not in the last place because of its marvellous illustrations. [...]the middle level families entered the civil service "in the spirit of the entrepreneur who must first identify the name of the game and then play it to the greatest personal advantage" (p. 144).
