Zusammenfassung: | Jacob Katz, clearly recognized as one of the greatest Jewish historians of the twentieth century, dedicated the last 20 years of his life to the study of Jewish Orthodoxy. He defined the phenomenon and described in detail how it came into practice in Hungary and Germany. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Katz was the "father of research on Orthodoxy." He surrounded himself with a cluster of researchers who made the subject their primary work in historiography. As a result of his work, Orthodoxy changed from a trivial part of the academic curriculum to a leading subject. Salmon follows Katz's perception of Orthodoxy, including its definition, its place in modern Jewish history, and its development. |
