Synthesizing the Science of the Mind: Cognitive, Emotional, and Motivational Perspectives on Psychological Phenomena

Reviews the book, Attention, Representation, and Human Performance: Integration of Cognition, Emotion, and Motivation edited by Slim Masmoudi, David Yun Dai, and Abdelmajid Naceur (see record 2011-27461-000). This book attempts to tie together various aspects of cognition, emotion, and motivation, which have often been treated as separate topics. Chapter topics range from the effects of emotion on basic cognitive processes, such as attention and working memory, to the way in which emotion and motivation underlie higher cognitive processes, such as creativity, problem solving, and decision making. The book also makes a concerted attempt to relate the integration of cognition, emotion, and motivation to recent findings in cognitive neuroscience. The intended audience includes a broad spectrum of both basic cognitive and affective scientists, as well as clinical and social psychologists.
