Basal Joint Osteoarthritis of the Thumb: A Prospective Trial of Steroid Injection and Splinting

The authors tested the hypothesis that a corticosteroid injection and splinting would provide temporary relief of symptoms due to trapeziometacarpal arthritis irrespective of radiographic stage. The authors identified limitations in their study including the small sample size and loss of 7 subjects, the question of whether all injections were in the trapeziometacarpal joint, and the lack of single intervention subjects for comparison.
