Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Everyday Parenting: A Professional's Guide to Building Family Management Skills by Thomas J. Dishion, Elizabeth A. Stormshak, and Kathryn A. Kavanagh (see record 2011-23787-000). Everyday Parenting: A Professional’s Guide to Building Family Management Skills presents many of the well-validated interventions typically used in the Oregon Social Learning Center (OSLC) approach, and the authors update these with the addition of some techniques and ideas drawn from more recently developed therapies. It is a soft-cover, large-format workbook for use by clinicians working with parents either individually or in groups. A compact disk is included that provides electronic versions of the major parent handouts from the workbook so that these can be printed as needed by the therapist. The parenting curriculum is divided into 12 sessions, and there is also an introductory chapter giving an overview of the approach, including the conceptual framework for the intervention model and some of the theoretical and research background on which it is based. It would be especially helpful for beginning therapists due to its clarity and practicality. It is also a valuable resource for some of us old-timers who learned about Gerald Patterson’s work back in the 20th century and who need to update our behavioral parent training repertoires.
