The effects of sorbitol on gastric emptying half-times and small intestinal transit after drug overdose

To the Editor, In patients with poisoning, the rate of gastric emptying controls the rate at which poison passes into the small intestine, the main site of absorption, and any delay may retard the onset and/or peak intensity of the drug's action [1]. Small intestinal transit times are important determining factors in the absorption of many drugs because the extent of the latter is related to contact time with the small intestinal mucosa [11].
